An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
In the United states, 38 million people have diabetes. Of the 38 million, 9.60 million people have diabetic retinopathy. Of those, 1.84 million people have vision threatening diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working age adults, but more than 90% of diabetic related vision loss can be avoided by early detection.
My goal is to save vision by increasing the amount of diabetic retinal screenings through AI assisted retinopathy scans while the patient is with their primary medical care provider.
